Through my internship experience with Lavner education, I worked as a STEM instructor teaching kid's classes. I really enjoyed this job and experience, and it proved to be a lot more difficult than I expected. The best part of the job was seeing the kid's final projects and how happy their work made them, having an impact in their lives was very meaningful.
There were a lot of difficulty's that I faced with this internship, the biggest one was trying to communicate all these very technical ideas with the kids, I often found that Lavner overestimated the kids. I had kids who were in classes about 3D modeling on the computer and digital art who didn't even know how to use a computer. With this I took initiative and ended up making my own course material that ended up helping the kids who were behind and couldn't keep up with the old course material that was premade for us.
I gained a lot from this internship and as it isn't your general internship, I think it has made me a more well-rounded engineer. My communication skills grew so much as I needed to find a way to communicate with all these kids and talk about complicated ideas and get them to understand them. The ability to control a room as well, it's hard to get 15 kids to pay attention to you so you have to be able to command a room which honestly going into this I had no idea how to do, but now I'm a very strong presenter.
The biggest thing I gained was leadership skills. I learned how to handle difficult situations from keeping the kids on task, to dealing with conflicts between students. I delt with a lot of tough situations where it was just me,
I helped guide all my students to create some really cool stuff, it was super cool to see their passion for STEM at a young age, and I was so happy to help them grow their passion and learn more about STEM. I enjoyed this internship so much I'm now going back in 2026 to do it again.
